Taking place between Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday, Holy Week is a popular time of year for visitors and locals in Lanzarote and signifies one of the most important cultural celebrations on the calendar.

As Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday fall on different dates each year, so to does Semana Santa (Holy Week). In 2024, Semana Santa runs from the 24th to the 31st of March.

The Señor de la Burritas procession also takes place in Arrecife on Palm Sunday. After attending Mass at the church of San Ginés the image of the Lord of the Burrita is carried through the streets by singing parishioners.

At various places around the island you can also see open-air theatrical performances of the Passion of Christ.
