According to forecasts by the Canary Islands Statistics Institute (ISTAC) tourist arrivals to the Canary Islands are set to boom this summer. This follows a trend in recent months where visitor numbers have risen, primarily driven by holidaymakers from the United Kingdom and a significant rise in travellers from mainland Spain.
Spanning the summer months the islands are set to see also see increases in visitors from other European countries, albeit to a lesser extent than British and domestic tourists. As you might expect growth is expected from Irish, French, Italian, Portuguese, and Dutch visitors.
Average occupancy rates are predicted to hit or even exceed 80% in August 2024, with a slight drop following in September. This covers both hotels and other types of accommodation such as private villa rentals.
The reason that the island won't see an occupancy approaching 100% is due to the continued decline in German and Nordic travellers. Due to demand, it is expected that hotels and accommodation providers will increase prices during the 3rd quarter of the year.
With the forecasted increase in British and Spanish visitors to the islands the tourism sector is setting itself for a prosperous second half of the year, with increased revenues and the potential for the creation of jobs painting a positive picture for the islands economic short term future.
