Guardia Civil Raids in Puerto del Carmen seize nearly 4,500 Counterfeit products
Guardia Civil Raids in Puerto del Carmen have resulted in the seizure of nearly 4,500 items of counterfeit products.
Three people have been arrested in Puerto del Carmen on the grounds of selling counterfeit products and breaches of intellectual property. The raids are a result of denuncias made in May, by brands reporting the sale of goods bearing high value trademarked names and logos.
Items seized, worth up to €466,000 in value, included football kits, luxury hand bags and wallets. Metal logos of high quality brands were also found behind the cashier desk, where staff would attach them to leather goods upon completion of the sale. This way, the logos were not visible to the authorities on the products whilst on display in the store.
Holidaymakers are reminded to be vigilant when buying branded goods abroad. Many luxury brands do not heavily discount their items, so if the price seems too good to be true, it's almost certainly a fake.
