The smallest hotel in the world, El Hotelito de Punta Grande, is to close it's doors for good in 2024.
The El Hierro hotel, dating back as far as 1830 and based in the municipality of La Frontera, is closing due to the 'infeasibility of developing a high-quality tourist establishment' on the island.
With a footprint of only 40 square meters the hotel can be found on the Punta Grande Pier. The pier itself was created from Lava Flow that cooled as it met the ocean.
After renovation in 1975, the building was transformed into a four room hotel and in 1984 was declared the worlds smallest hotel in the Guinness Book of Records. In 1991 the Canary Island Government recognised the hotel with a silver medal of 'Importance for Tourism' and in 2018 declared a site of cultural interest.
The Adult Only hotel boasts amazing views over the Atlantic Ocean, the sound of nothing but rolling waves and an intimate setting for people wanting to visit the island.
