The two supermarkets have been the subject of many rumours over the last few years, but plans for both an Aldi and Lidl supermarket in the southernmost resort of Lanzarote are now in full swing.
The Mayor of Yaiza, Oscar Noda, has confirmed that the Aldi Supermarket in Playa Blanca will open by January 2025, and Lidl - situated in the Industrial Park - will open in November 2024.
There has been talk and speculation amongst residents of the resort for many years about the arrival of the supermarkets to the area, and they will provide a change from the Hyperdino 'monopoly' on the town. It is hoped that the introduction of new competition will bring the price of the weekly shop down for both tourists and locals.
The Playa Blanca Aldi Supermarket will be situated on the site of the old market that has been in disrepair for a number of years.
Do you welcome the addition of the two new supermarkets?
